A well known village vocalist is hitting ‘the big time’ this month when she takes to the main stage of an internationally renowned music venue.
Joanne Mather, well known for her appearances in Ruddington with husband James Mather in their duo Lady Rose, is to sing for world famous American act Post Modern Juke Box. They discovered her after the band’s creator, Scott Bradlee, saw a video of Joanne covering ‘All About The Bass’ in their classic swing style. They invited her to perform with them on ‘The Grand Reopening Tour’ – and Joanne’s debut at Nottingham’s Rock City is on Friday 29th April 2022.
James says it’s all very exciting: “We’ve performed regularly as Lady Rose in Ruddington at various pubs, mainly The Red Lion, and have previously played at RuddFest, so we’re both well known in the area. The Lady Rose page now has over 30,000 followers and we’re starting to take off – getting 1.5 million views for Joanne’s cover of the Andra Day hit ‘Rise Up’ which was shared by talent discovery page Music Crowns.”
James reveals: “Joanne’s also currently working with Jim Duguid, the co-writer of Paolo Nutini’s hit album ‘These Streets’ and who wrote the number 1 hit ‘Too Close’ for Alex Clare. They’re making slow chilled out covers of popular songs.” You can hear some of these via Spotify below:
The week before that, on Friday 22nd April at 8pm, Lady Rose are performing again at the Red Lion in Ruddington, and everyone’s welcome. “We also perform at The Cottage Hotel and appear in their brochure; as their resident artist for weddings” adds James.
Joanne Mather isn’t the only Ruddington representative doing a gig at Rock City this month.
On Saturday April 30th Nottinghamshire’s infamous Ferocious Dog are back at the Talbot Street venue with their unique brand of vibrant Celtic-folk infused punk rock.
Founder member and violinist Dan Booth has lived in Ruddington for almost four years now – and can be spotted out and about in our village when he’s not in the middle of headline tours of the UK, Europe, Kenya or Dubai! Ferocious Dog have played festivals such as Bearded Theory, Alchemy, Deerstock, Farmer Phil’s Festival, Splendour, Lowlands (Netherlands), Glastonbury and Beautiful Days, among many others.
But Dan tells RUDDINGTON.info that playing their ‘home’ venue is always special: “We first headlined Rock City in 2015, becoming the first unsigned band to sell it out in its 35 year history. We’ve sold it out twice since and are about to sell it out again on 30th April – albeit not unsigned now, as we have a record label contract.”
Their latest album is called ‘The Hope’ – tracks from which will be featured during their forthcoming 2022 UK and European Tour, including that much anticipated Rock City date.
